Aviation Ministry provides clarification on remodelling of airports

By on May 10, 2014

The aviation ministry has provided clarifications on the state of the ongoing remodeling of the nation’s airports. A statement from the ministry signed by its Assistant Director, Press/PRU, Mr. Ojeme Hastings, said the story going the rounds that the permanent secretary in the ministry,  Dr. Jamila Shu’ara , was sitting on the funds earmarked for completion of projects are not true.

He said the permanent secretary has not transferred any director who are on supervision of the projects.

“These allegations are untrue, baseless and a reckless product of the evil machinations of those who hate the ideals of the Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Dr Shu’ara is championing.  The Permanent Secretary has not sat on any payment of contractors, questioned approved projects in any airport or transferred Directors who are on supervision,” the statement said.

Hastings said the supervising Minister of Aviation, Dr. Ortom, has promised that the ongoing projects would be completed because their completion would improve the viability of the aviation sector, adding that the supervising minister and the permanent secretary are not working at cross purposes.

He claimed both Dr Ortom and Dr Shu’ara are working  harmoniously to improve the state of the physical assets at the nation’s airports

“The two are certainly working harmoniously to achieve the strategic objectives of the transformation agenda of Mr. President on the aviation sector and the fear expressed in some section of the media  that the former Minister’s projects may face completion problems remains unfounded and unjustifiable,” he said.
