Alade, Rewane, others move to boost cash-less policy

In a bid to driving the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy, a one-day international seminar will be holding in Lagos next month among stakeholders in the financial system.

The Acting Governor, CBN, Dr. Sarah Alade; Deputy Governor, Operations, CBN, Dr. Kingsley Moghalu; and the Chief Executive Officer, Financial Derivatives Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, will be among the key speakers at the seminar, according to a statement from the organisers.

The Director, Africa and Middle East, Travelex United Kingdom, Mr. Mark Smith, is also billed to address the one-day event alongside the executives of the Association of Bureau de Change Operators.

The programme, being organised by Wilson and Weizmann Associates, a public policy company, in collaboration with the CBN will deliberate on ways to move the cashless policy forward.

The statement quoted the co-ordinator, Wilson and Weizmann Associates, Mr. Festus Masajuwa, as saying that selected chief executives of major banks would be at the event.

He listed others expected at the programme to include the Director-General, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Femi Ajayi, and the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.

Mazajuwa said, “Issues to be canvassed at the seminar include the ease associated with a non-cash payment system, the advantage of greater security, the problem of financial inclusiveness of the unbanked majority as well as issues of anti money laundering, and the infrastructural challenges associated with the new system.

“The seminar will offer the banking community in Lagos an opportunity to exchange views and experiences with their counterparts from other parts of the country with a view to ensuring a hitch-free national roll out in July.”
