Minister to promote agriculture through expo

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, has confirmed he will participate in the 2014 edition of agricultural exhibition tagged, AGRIEXPO, as a keynote speaker.

He said that the exhibition was in line with the ministry’s vision of Agricultural Transformation Agenda, adding that agriculture as business had great potential in impacting the Nigerian economy.

According to a statement by the organisers of the event, 151 Products Limited, the minister said this during a courtesy visit by the management of the organising company to him in Abuja.

The Chairman of 151 Products Limited, Mazi Sam Ohuanbuwa, said the expo slated for June 2, would enhance agricultural businesses.

He said that the opportunity of facilitating market access, introduction of new agricultural technology and the attraction of investment inflows into the sector were some of its benefits, which he noted as important to economic growth.

“AGRIKEXPO, which is concurrent with another exhibition, FoodBext West Africa, brings together agricultural and food and beverage processing and packaging companies at a forum for the overall good of food security and agriculture development,” he said.

He added that the expo would focus on agro-financing, value-chain development, route to market practices and post-harvest management for farmers.

According to the Project Manager, Mr. Bamidele Isan, arrangements are in top gear for the show as many foreign and local exhibitors are expected.
