Akanu Ibiam Airport International terminal to cost N11.6b

The Supervising Minister of Aviation, Dr. Samuel Ortom has stated that the international terminal at the Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu would be completed by September next year.
The terminal is being built by the Chine Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of N11.6 billion.

Ortom  who is also the Minister of State for Trade and Investment gave the assurance on Monday after inspecting the on-going works at the airport. He also inspected airport facilities under construction with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and all heads of the aviation parastatals and other heads of departments of the Aviation Ministry.

The Minister said he was impressed by the level of work going on as the engineers handling the project promised him and his entourage that at the speed the work was going, the company would do everything within its power and resources to ensure the facility was completed on schedule.
Ortom also inspected the remodeled old terminal, the pilgrims terminal, the pilots lodge and the general aviation building, all within the airport.
Speaking at the end of the inspection Ortom said: “I want to say that I am impressed with what I have seen. This is the whole essence of coming here since I resumed office. I have looked at what I have seen today on paper but had to come to see things for myself so as to talk as an authority.

“You can see that the old terminal has been completed and commissioned. The new terminal building which is going to cost the Federal Government N11.6 billion the work is progressively going on. I want to say here that local content of this project is unimaginable. Over 400 Nigerians have been given jobs for this terminal project alone.”

On the quality of work of the project, the Minister also commended the company.
He added: “My engineer on site has confirmed that they have no issues with the Chinese company handling the project. So I am equally impressed. I have gotten the assurance from the company that this project will be delivered to the Federal Government and to Nigerians by September next year. I have faith in the company because I know them right back in my home state Benue where they did work for the government.”

“This project, I make bold to say, is the whole essence of the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to the dividends of democracy to the people that is the reason you are seeing the massive construction going on.”
The remodeling of the old terminal and the construction of the new terminal was awarded by the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah before she was removed from office last February by President Jonathan.
