Telecoms to Contribute 15% to GDP by 2015 – Juwah
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Eugene Juwah, has expressed optimism that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector will contribute about 15 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), by 2015. This contribution, represents about 95 percent jump from its 8.53 percent performance in 2013.
The positive frog leap is coming on the heels of the release of the country’s 2013 rebased index, which attributed 8.69 percent as its share of contribution to the country’s GDP after over decades
The sector, THISDAY however gathered contributed over 8.53 percent to the country’s GDP, for the much of 2013, according to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). It stated: “From 2006 to 2012, the industry reportedly contributed 1.91, 2.31, 2.92, 3.66, 4.56, 5.67 and 7.05 percent, respectively to the GDP.”
