Kaduna expresses commitment to SMEs

The Kaduna State Government has expressed its determination to promote the establishment of medium and small scale industries to create jobs and fast track development.

The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Joshua Uchissa gave the assurance on Thursday in Kaduna at a workshop for stakeholders in financial and industrial sectors.

The workshop has as its theme: “Promoting Synergy and Collaboration in Providing Service to MSMEs by MDAs.”

Represented by Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Uchissa said the government had since inaugurated a standing committee to develop a road map for the promotion of SMEs for rapid economic growth.

He said developing the sub sector would not only create massive employment and wealth but also alleviate poverty and reduce the security challenges in the state.

According to him, one of the strategies to fast track the process is to mobilise needed funds to support micro, small and medium enterprises.

Uchissa therefore challenged the participants to come up with a template to address the challenge and also the issue of multiple taxation, which had crippled the SMEs.

The commissioner, disclosed that the state government had set up a committee to harmonise and address the issue of multiple taxes in the state.

According to him multiple tax does not encourage business and the conducive environment needed for business.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensure lasting peace and security across the state to make commercial activities flourish.
