Total denies shutting Ofon-2 project

Total E&P Nigeria Ltd, the operator of the NNPC/Total Joint Venture, has denied recent media reports claiming it had shut down its Ofon-2 project.
The denial comes even as the company acknowledged receipt of a notice of non-compliance with the Nigerian Content Act, from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, against one of its contractors, Hyundai Heavy Industries, HHI.

A statement from Total on Sunday, read in part, “Contrary to some recently published media reports, the Board has not now and did not at any time, make a request or issue an instruction that the Ofon-2 project be shut down.”

The statement, which was signed by the company’s Deputy General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Charles Ogan, also denied reports suggesting that there were only two Nigerians working for HHI on the Ofon-2 project.
He said, “…this is incorrect. There are over one hundred Nigerians currently working for HHI, which is just one of the Contractors on the Ofon-2 project.”

The statement further said that “Total will be meeting with HHI and NCDMB to ensure a timely and satisfactory resolution of the issues raised by the NCDMB notice.”
It also noted that the Total Group worldwide and all its contractors “are required to carry out all operations in a diligent and professional manner and in full compliance with, and respect for, all national laws and regulations.”
