Dangote, others to speak at Lagos economic summit

Two former Presidents–Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia and Pedro Pires of Cape Verde; and foremost industrialist and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, will be among the local and international speakers at the coming 7th Lagos Economic Summit called EHINGBETI 2014.

The three-day summit slated for next month in Lagos has the theme,‘Powering the Lagos economy: real opportunities, endless possibilities.’

According to a statement by the organisers, Saakashvili is expected as the main keynote speaker, while Pires will speak at the dinner event being put together as one of the side attractions of the economic summit.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, who is the host of the economic summit, will deliver the opening address.

The statement lists other speakers and panellists for the summit to include the Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Sam Amadi; Commissioner, Market Competition and Rates, NERC, Mr. Eyo Ekpo; Group Executive Director (Gas and Power), Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. David Ige; Dean, Faculty of Environmental Science, University of Lagos, Prof. Olumide Olusanya; and Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Taofiq Tijani.

The statement quoted the Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ben Akabueze, as confirming the attendance of the delegates, saying the personalities would boost the quality of deliberations and most importantly, investment decisions that would be taken at the summit.

Akabueze, who is also the co-Chairman, Lagos Economic Summit Group, said, “We are delighted at the number of confirmations that we have received so far from our outlined speakers and panellists. And, we are very encouraged that their participation and quality of deliberations and decisions that will take place during the 7th Lagos Economic Summit will make it a worthwhile being at the summit.’’

He said this year’s economic summit would not only serve as a platform for the provision of cross-fertilisation of ideas, but would further demonstrate the state’s commitment to accelerating rapid and sustained economic growth of the state.
