Firm plans 1,000 agents for electricity bill payment
A revenue collection firm for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Scratch `N’ Pay, has urged prepaid meter customers to embrace the use of recharge cards for prompt payments of their bills.
The company, in a statement on Wednesday, said it was going to embark on a massive expansion of its agency network by appointing over 1,000 agents to make payments of electricity bills easier for prepaid customers through scratch cards, within the IKEDC jurisdiction.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Olaonipekun Famoroti, said customers could now stay in their homes and make payments for electricity which would reduce the risk of carrying cash around.
The statement quoted him as saying this during a recent customer and card distributor sensitisation forum in Lagos.
Famoroti said with Scratch `N’ Pay, electricity consumers could pay their bills effectively through the use of scratch cards.
According to him, Point of Sale terminals, mobile phones, and agent locations offer easy payment options to IKEDC customers; while urging all electricity customers to get Scratch ‘N’ Pay recharge cards from dealers’ shops closer to them for convenient payment of electricity bills.
He said that the scratch card was also another way of empowering people to be self sufficient in their various businesses by becoming recharge card distributors/agents to the company.
He said, “We are revenue collection agents to IKEDC and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, which means we collect revenue on their behalf, through the use of electronics devices and terminals.
“Such devices/terminals are Point of Sales, Internet, mobile phone and other electricity collection platforms that will make payment more convenient to electricity customers. We ensure that customers pay bills at ease from the comfort of their homes without going to any electricity offices and their account will be automatically credited.’’
Famoroti said it was the company’s desire to have sales agents on every street within the IKEDC operational areas.
He reiterated that more recharge card agents and distributors would be added to the existing ones to make recharge cards accessible to electricity users at the comfort of their homes.
Famoroti said that the company was planning to engage a strategy that would ensure that every street had an agent selling electricity recharge cards to customers without having to go to the company’s office.
According to him, the company has developed an e-wallets solution that will make both the card distributors and agents access their accounts for effective sales of cards to customers.
“We have also fashioned ways to give better commissions to our distributors and agents, who excel in their sales of cards as a sign of motivation,” he added.
