BEDC frustrating disengaged PHCN staff – NUEE, SSAEAC

By on March 7, 2014

MEMBERS of National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, have accused the Management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, of frustrating disengaged staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN of the Benin Zone by refusing to settle their entitlements.

Vice President (West) of NUEE, Mr. Alamu Oloyede, who briefed newsmen after a joint meeting of the unions in Benin, yesterday, also accused the BEDC management of using money meant for disengaged staff to run their business after using part of it to settle only the retained workers.

It will be recalled that Edo State Government had recently warned the BEDC management to avoid any action that may cause labour unrest in the state.

The warning, which was contained in a letter by the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Didi Adodo, said: “Be informed that Edo State is a labour friendly state, which is why the government has been averting industrial crisis from labour unions and would be happy if your management could do the same.”

He informed the BEDC management that the unions, in a letter to the state government, had complained of non-remittance of the check off dues from its members in its (BEDC) employment.

Meanwhile, NUEE Vice- President (West) accused the management of BEDC of non-remittance of the check off dues from its members, who, he also said, were not allowed to belong to unions.
