House set to probe production of sub-standard cement
Against the backdrop of allegations that some companiesin the country are producing substandard cement, the House of Representatives has resolved to probe the matter..
The need for the investigation was prompted by an alert from an ensemble of non governmental organisations (NGOs) that a 32.5 grade of cement said to be substandard exists in the market. The group threatened to protest and report the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to Consumer Protection Commission for allowing such development.
Before this development, the House had decided after approving a motion raised by Hon. Ibrahim El-Sudi which expressed concerns over the high incidences of building collapse in parts of the country, that there is a need for an investigation of the issue.
