Akwa Ibom to experience uninterrupted power supply soon – Akpabio’s aide

Akwa Ibom would soon begin to experience uninterrupted power supply with the readiness of the Ibom Power Plant, a state government official has said.

Dr Victor Udoh, Gov. Godswill Akpabio’s Senior Special Assistant on Power, made the disclosure when he spoke to newsmen on Tuesday in Uyo.

He said the completion of a major gas infrastructure in Esit Eket to feed the Ibom power plant was a major boost to the scheme.

The governor’s aide said there had also been an upgrade of the Eket-Uyo-Itu 132KV transmission, adding that Ibom power plant unit 3 has also been restored.

“Under the leadership of the new board, General Electric has completed the general combustion inspection of Ibom power plant and the plant has been effective, which is the reason why we are experiencing an improvement in power supply.

“The power which will be generated in Akwa Ibom will not only serve the state but will be enjoyed by other states through the national grid,” he said.

Udoh however condemned the increasing acts of vandalism of power infrastructure.

The governor’s senior special assistant appealed to the people of the state to expose those practising such negative acts against the society.

He said areas in the state which were still witnessing poor power supply or total power outage were suffering from problems caused by transformer-related challenges occasioned by vandalism.

“Please, for us all to enjoy the improvement in power supply in the state, we should try and report any strange movement around our transformers,” Udoh said.(NAN)
