IPMAN dispels fuel scarcity rumour

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has advised members of the public to avoid panic buying of petrol, saying there is enough fuel in the country.

The National President, IPMAN, Mr. Aminu Abdulkadri, said this during a media briefing in Abuja Monday as there had been anxiety of an impending nationwide fuel scarcity.

Abdulkadri said the fuel supply situation in the country was stable.

He said, “There is no scarcity of fuel in the country. The marketers and Nigerians should stop sending wrong signals over scarcity of petroleum products.

“We are lodging petroleum products adequately from all NNPC depots across the country and we don’t think there is any imminent scarcity because the NNPC has assured us of sufficient stock.”

He said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiary had sufficient stock in its marine reserves and in the national strategic reserves that would ensure that the country remained wet with petroleum products round the clock.

The IPMAN president cautioned members of the public against any form of hoarding or panic buying of petroleum products in anticipation of an imminent scarcity.

Abdulkadri said, “The fuel supply situation in the country is quite stable; no cause for alarm. This smooth supply of products has been sustained for a period of two years.

“I want to assure our members that there is no cause for alarm, we need to step up our bridging; in areas where product supply is lacking, we should augment, because vandalism of products pipelines has been a serious menace to the country.”
