We are ready for recertification – Dana Air

Dana Air has said that it is prepared to go through another round of recertification to be conducted by the regulatory bodies if the situation calls for it.

The management of the airline said it was the first to go through the recertification exercise and had addressed all the issues raised by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in the course of its audit.

During the recommencement of its operations in Lagos on Monday, the Chief Operating Officer and Accountable Manager, Dana Air, Mr. Yvan Drewinsky, said the airline was satisfied with the recent audit.

He said, “We are satisfied with the process and the lifting of the suspension order is a testament that Dana Air adheres strictly to prescribed safety standards.

“The NCAA raised a few issues during the process and we have since closed all the items that were opened during the audit.”

Drewinsky explained that the company was engaged in the training of its employees, adding that even while the audit was going on, the workers and crew members were undergoing training in South Africa.

On the state of its aircraft, Drewinsky said the airline was already in the market to acquire another Boeing 737, adding that one would arrive in the country this week, while another would be delivered next month.

Dana Air’s preferred aircraft type, the McDonnell Douglas 83, has come under intense scrutiny since the June 3, 2012 crash involving one of its planes, leading to calls from various quarters for a re-fleeting of the airline.

Drewinsky said, “We are acquiring two aircraft; the Boeing 737-500 will come in a few days, while another, the Boeing 737-300 will be coming in February.

“We are glad that we have shown compliance to safety as an airline and we look forward to serving this market because we know there is a fantastic opportunity to be the best here.”

He said the airline would immediately commence flying on the Lagos-Abuja route, adding that it would add other routes in the next few weeks.
