Job creation: World Bank, EU give FG N48bn

The World Bank, European Union and other International Development Associations have provided the Federal Government with $300m (N48bn) for the financing of a job creation programme in Nigeria.

The five-year State Employment and Expenditure for Results project has three main components.

They are youth employment and access to socio-economic services; public financial management reforms; and project coordination and implementation support at the federal and state levels.

The programme was initiated by the World Bank three years ago in a bid to improve the living conditions of the people of the Niger Delta.

This, according to the Secretary to the National Planning Commission, Mr. Ntufam Ugbo, is part of the World Bank’s contributions to the amnesty programme of the Federal Government.

Ugbo spoke on Wednesday in Abuja during a national policy dialogue on monitoring and evaluation for the SEEFOR project.

The theme of the dialogue was: ‘The imperative for an efficient monitoring and evaluation system for effective delivery of the SEEFOR project.’

Ugbo said the project, which commenced in July 2013 in Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Rivers states, was aimed at enhancing opportunities for employment, especially among the youth, as well as improving public financial management in the beneficiary states.
