Electricity workers shelve strike for two weeks
Electricity workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria and its successor companies have shelved their planned nationwide strike, which would have commenced on Tuesday.
The strike, it was learnt, had been suspended for two weeks.
Our correspondent gathered that officials of key unions, representing the workers, met with the Federal Government on Monday night in a meeting that stretched till the early hours of Tuesday.
The unions included the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies and the National Union of Electricity Employees.
It was also learnt that the decision to suspend the strike was reached at the meeting.
The President-General, SSAEAC, Mr. Bede Opara, told our correspondent that the unions decided to shelve the strike after reaching a compromise with the Federal Government during the meeting.
He said, “I’m sure you have heard that the strike has been suspended for the next two weeks. We had a meeting with government yesterday (Monday) that ended this (Tuesday) morning.”
