NSE ASI inches up by 0.07% in five days
The NSE All-Share Index inched up by 30.14 points or 0.07 percent within 5 days to close last week Friday at 41,480.62 basis points as against the preceding week’s closing figure of 41,450.48 basis points.
The market capitalisation of entities on the mainboard equally closed higher last Friday at N13.275 trillion to gain by N10 billion or 0.07 percent when compared with the previous week’s closing figure of N13.265 trillion.
The NSE Lotus Islamic Index and NSE Industrial Goods Index equally appreciated by 0.85% and 2.23% respectively.
However, the NSE 30, NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Banking, NSE Insurance, and the NSE Oil/Gas Index depreciated during the week by 0.56%, 0.49%, 3.20%, 3.00% and 3.08% respectively while the NSE-ASeM closed flat.
Information gathered from the Exchange indicated that thirty four equities appreciated in prices during the week lower than sixty six equities of the preceding week.
Forty seven equities depreciated in prices higher than eighteen equities of the preceding week while one hundred and seventeen equities remained unchanged higher than one
hundred and fourteen equities in the previous week.
A turnover of 1.722 billion shares worth N22.443 billion in 29,600 deals were traded last week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, in contrast to a total of 2 billion shares valued at N15.907 billion that exchanged hands the previous week in 17,378 deals.
The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.199 billion shares valued at N10.851 billion traded in 15,134 deals, thus contributing 69.65% and 48.35% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Oil and Gas Industry followed with a turnover of 182.278 million shares worth N2.221 billion in 4,866 deals.
The third place was occupied by the Conglomerates Industry with 124.131 million shares worth N665.139 million in 1,982 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely, FBN Holdings Plc, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc and Unity Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 407.945 million shares worth N3.229 billion in 5,007 deals, contributing 23.69% and 14.39% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Also traded during the week were a total of 105 units of NewGold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) valued at N198,945.00 executed in 2 deals compared with a total of 5 units of NewGold valued at N9,867.00 transacted the previous week in 2 deals.
Similarly, 2,800 units of FGN bonds valued at N2.645 million were last week traded in 10 deals compared with a total of 2,647 units of FGN bonds valued at N2.626 million transacted the previous week in 8 deals.
Portland Paints led the top ten losers chart for last week shedding N0.85k in its share price to close at N4.65k per share.
Conoil followed with a loss of N8.92k in its share price to close at N52.40k per share while Africa Prudentials in third spot lost N0.36k in its share price to close at N3.30k per share.
Pharma-Deko Plc was fourth losing N0.17k in its share price to close at N1.68k per share.
N.E.M Insurance was fifth with a share price loss of N0.08k to close at N0.81k per share.
Other companies on the chart are May & Baker, Japaul Oil, Continenetal Reinsurance, Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.
However, IHS Plc led the gainers chart appreciating by N0.53k in its share price to close at N3.18k per share.
Royal Exchange was second gaining N0.08k in its share price to close at N0.63k per share while Neimeth Pharmaceuticals in third spot gained N0.16k in its share price to close at N1.60k per share.
Learn Africa was fourth with a gain of N0.16k in its share price to close at N2.10k per share while John Holt was fifth with a share price gain of N0.09k to close at N1.21k per share.
Union Dicon, C&I Leasing Plc, Red Star Express, UACN Property and Associated Bus Company were other companies on the chart.
