Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun on Tuesday in Osogbo presented a budget of N216 billion for the 2014 fiscal year to the state house of assembly.

The governor was represented at the occasion by his Special Adviser, Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Bade Adeshina, with the budget christened “Budget of Growth Enhancement and Development’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the budget was N18 billion or 7.5 per cent lower than the N234 billion budgeted for 2013.

In the budget, N119 billion or 55 per cent was earmarked for capital expenditure while recurrent expenditure would gulp N97 billion or 45 per cent.

Adesina said the reduction in the budget was due to oil theft and dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.

“The state will now embark on an aggressive drive for internally-generated revenue to finance the budget,’’ he said.

Adeshina said also that the budget would focus on the six integral agenda of the state government.

The Speaker, Mr Najeem Salaam, said members of the House would do justice to the budget for the benefit of the state’s citizens.

Salaam said the interest of the people would be paramount during the consideration of the budget.

“This House, as usual, will do justice to this budget, and the people`s interest will be made to prevail,” he said.(NAN)
