Non-payment of bills posing big challenge to DISCOs – BEDC

By on December 31, 2013

THE management of  Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, in charge of Asaba and Agbor districts in Delta State, has decried the non-payment of electricity bills by consumers, noting that same was  posing a big challenge to the company. It added  that it won’t write off outstanding bills incurred before it came on  board.

It called on consumers with outstanding electricity bills to pay up as it had no intention  to write off such outstanding bills, both the ones incurred during the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN era and with the current management.

The Public Relations Officer of the two districts, Mrs. Esther Okolie, during an interactive session in Asaba, said “we are not going to write off the old debts as some customers are requesting. Residents should also know that we (BEDC) need the consumers to remain in business and non-payment of their electricity bills has become a big challenge to the new company.”
