Enterprise Bank employees give management 3-day ultimatum

The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has given the management of Enterprise Bank a three-day ultimatum to reverse its unfair labour practices or face its wrath.

The President of ASSBIFI, Mr Sunday Salako, gave the ultimatum on Tuesday, while addressing a news conference.

“The ultimatum became necessary because of the high-handedness of the management.

“The Union was earlier restrained from picketing the bank because of the repeated assurances by the management of their readiness to adhere to provisions of the industry’s collective agreement, ’’ he said.

Salako explained that the union still had the issue of deduction and the remittance of check-off dues to resolve with the management, when it went ahead and sacked 150 employees.

“We are not asking them not to sack or right size their workforce, but they must go through the right process and negotiate with the union,’’ he said.

Salako said that the union had written several letters to the management asking for a meeting to discuss the issues, but to no avail.

“As we speak, from Dec. 1 to date, we have written the management twice, drawing their attention to the illegality of their action and the need to resolve them,” he said.

The president said that on Dec. 23, the union would embark on mass action against the bank, nationwide, should the issues remain resolved by then. (NAN)
