The risk management efforts of Access Bank Plc and Enterprise Bank Limited have been recognised at the inaugural edition of the Nigerian Risk Awards.

While Access was judged the overall winner in the Banking and Investments Services category of the award, Enterprise Bank emerged second best in the country.

The award, organised by Conrad Clark Nigeria in collaboration with Businessday and the United Kingdom Institute of Risk Management, was in recognition of the banks measurable results through the effective implementation of enterprise risk management principles.

The organisers noted that for the competing organisations, emphasis was placed on the development of creative and innovative solutions in overcoming the challenges facing business in Nigeria, and that the organisations must also have demonstrated commitment and effectiveness in their risk management processes.

The organisers stated that the objective of the award was to, among other things, inspire and reward individuals and companies practising good governance and leadership, and honour the outstanding risk professionals in the various sectors in Nigeria.

It also seeks to promote risk management education and skills as part of the national transformation agenda as well as support continuing professional development and contribute towards raising the standards of enterprise risk management in Africa.

According to two separate statements by Access and Enterprise banks, the panel of judges was co-chaired by Dr. Divid Hillson, a globally celebrated scholar from the United Kingdom and Mr. Victor Odozi, who is a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The statement by Enterprise Bank quoted the Head, Corporate Communications, Olusola Longe-Okenimkpe, as saying that the bank emerged first runners up in the “Banking and Investment Service” award category.
