Uwaga emerges new NIM president

The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) has elected new principal officers to run its affairs for the next two years with Dr. Nelson Uwaga, a consultant pharmacist and an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, emerging as the 19th president and Chairman of Council of the institute.

Also elected were Prof. Munzali Jubril, a former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, and Mr. Grant Orugbani, a seasoned management consultant as deputy president and national treasurer, respectively.

Uwaga, who has been serving the institute in various capacities since 2003, according to a statement on Tuesday, holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka;  Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Benin, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Port-Harcourt, with over 30 years of professional and managerial experience.

The statement added, “Uwaga’s pedigree as a thoroughbred, seasoned and tested professional is not in doubt as he has distinguished himself at the top in his chosen field of pharmacy and other areas of interest. A holder of the fellowship of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and the West African Post-graduate College of Pharmacists, he is a former President of the PSN and one time Third World Representative (Community Pharmacy), International Pharmaceutical Federation at The Hague, Netherlands.

“At other times, he had been the National Chairman, Nigerian Association of General Practice Pharmacists and also a former Vice President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria.”

According to the statement signed by the Registrar/Chief Executive, NIM, Mr. Maurice Lakanu, the investiture of the new president and chairman of council will take place today (Thursday) in Lagos.
