NCAA commences audit of Dana Airlines

Two months after the suspension of the operations of Dana Airlines, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has commenced a full scale operational audit of the airline.

This was disclosed by the Director-General, NCAA, Mr. Fola Akinkuotu, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.

According to him, the exercise, which will last for five days, is being carried out by a team of NCAA inspectors and some foreign experts.

He explained in the statement that the audit team was drawn from the flight safety group of the NCAA, comprising of airworthiness inspectors, flight operations inspectors, ground operations inspectors and cabin safety inspectors, among others.

In addition, the DG said this was the beginning of a phased audit of all the airlines operating in the country.

Akinkuotu said, “We have put in place this wholesale programme to ensure that all airlines operating in our airspace are safe and secure.

“The comfort of passengers is of great concern to the authority and investors in airline operation must have a level playing field and an enabling environment to ensure a profitable operation.”

The statement added that at the conclusion of the exercise, a report would be submitted to the DG, and similar to a white paper, it would be subjected to proper scrutiny and thereafter, all open items would be closed by the airline.

“It is after this that a decision will be taken to enable Dana Airlines to recommence operations,” the statement said.

It will be recalled that the airline’s operations were suspended on October 6, 2013, to allow for a full operational audit to be carried out.

Almost a month following the suspension, the management of Dana decried the delay in the commencement of the planned operational audit.
