World Bank to assist Kogi with poverty alleviation projects

The World Bank has said it will partner the Kogi state government in the fight against poverty.

Marie-Francoise Marie-Nelly, the World Bank Country Director in Nigeria, disclosed this on Saturday, when she paid a courtesy visit to Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State.

Part of her visit to Kogi State was to examine projects executed under World Bank-Assisted programmes.

Marie-Nelly urged the government to take development to the next level by providing infrastructures that will better the standard of living of the people and also improve productivity.

“We have gone into partnership with the Kogi state government in the areas of crop processing, better budget execution and HIV sensitisation,” Marie-Nelly said.

She advised the Kogi state government to apply to the World Bank so as to be among the states that would benefit from the Erosion Management Fund being provided by the bank.

Governor Wada assured the bank that the state would meet its obligation regarding the payment of counterpart contributions as a mark of readiness to move forward.

“Every partnership that will bring growth to the state and an improved standard of living for the people in the state, is welcome, as we would also play our own role,” he said.
