NAMA imposes $3,000 fee on non-scheduled airline operators

By on November 20, 2013

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has announced that airlines involved in non-scheduled operations will pay up to $3,000 as fees.

This was contained in ‘aeronautical information’ circular for all airlines involved in non-scheduled flight operations.

NAMA said in the circular, which was signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Supo Atobatele, that the commencement of the new operational charges took effect from Monday, November 18, 2013.

It stated, “All foreign registered aircraft engaging in non-scheduled operations shall henceforth pay before departure the sum of $3,000 as fee for every departure except round trips without changes in passenger manifest, or return ferry.

“In the same vein, all registered Nigerian aircraft that engage in non-scheduled operations shall henceforth pay the sum of $2,500 prior to every departure.”

The circular quoted the NAMA’s Director of Operations, Mr. John Onyegiri, as saying that the upward review “is in compliance with section 30(2) (9) and (s) of the Civil Aviation Act of 2006.”

He stressed that the fees were inclusive of landing, parking, navigation and terminal navigation charges and would be charged in respect of the first 10 hours after which additional parking fees would apply.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority had in September directed owners and operators of private jets to pay the sum of $4,000 (N634,000) for every flight departure within the country.

According to a memo to all private jet operators and which was obtained by The PUNCH, the NCAA had ordered that Nigerian-registered private jets would henceforth pay the sum of $3,000 (N475,517) for every departure, while foreign registered private jets would pay $4,000 (N634,000) per departure.

Findings by our correspondent showed that there are about 139 private jets operating in the country; made up of 87 jets registered overseas and 52 jets registered in Nigeria. Usually, private jets record between 350 and 400 flight hours every year.
