Lagos government to begin classification of hotels
The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to commence the classification and grading of hotels operating in the state.
Mr Disu Holloway, the Commissioner for Tourism and Inter- Governmental Relations, made this known on Thursday at a news conference in Lagos.
He said that the hotels’ classification programme would encourage healthy competition within the industry, while facilitating the provision of relevant information about hotels to prospective customers.
The commissioner said that Gov. Babatunde Fashola inaugurated the Hotel Grading, Classification Committee and the Ratification Appeal and Classification Review Committee on July 29 to sanitise the industry.
Holloway said that the two committees consisted of stakeholders from the private sector and three government officials.
He also said that foreign experts were brought into the country to train officials on grading and classification of hotels.
He said that about 3,000 hotels had so far been enumerated in the ongoing exercise. (NAN)
