IPMAN sells kerosene for N50 in Ilorin, Ibadan

Residents of Kwara State, especially the Ilorin metropolis, on Sunday purchased kerosene at N50 per litre as officials of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Ilorin Depot, supervised the sale of the product.

A litre of the product had previously sold in the state for between N120 and N140, depending on the filling station.

The Auditor, Western Zone, IPMAN, Mr. Jimoh Bakare, who represented the chairman, Mr. Olumide Ogunmade, and the Chairman, IPMAN, NNPC depot, Ilorin, Alhaji Abdul Rasheed Olapode, said 99,000 litres of kerosene was distributed through six stations at the official rate of N50 per litre.

Our correspondent learnt that as a result of the development, no fewer than 5,000 residents benefitted from the offer.

Bakare said the exercise would be a continuous one as products were made available to IPMAN.

“This is an interesting development in IPMAN through the collaboration of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Petroleum Products Marketing Company and the national leadership of IPMAN to ensure that kerosene is sold at the official rate of N50 per litre to people in the grass root to enable things to get better as we are getting to the Yuletide,” he said.

Olapode, while commending NNPC, PPMC and the IPMAN national body for the offer, urged them to continue to make the product available to depots at the official rate.

Meanwhile, Ogunmade has called on the Federal Government to invest in the development of linear energy as a cheaper alternative.

Ogunmade, who spoke in Ibadan at an event held to mark the beginning of the sale of kerosene at N50 per litre as ordered by the Minster of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, said Nigeria must move beyond its present position and embrace technological advancement in the energy sector.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to expedite action on the development of linear energy, which is now embraced by many countries of the world. We appreciate what the government is doing to ensure that kerosene is available to the masses, but the linear energy is cheaper, affordable and friendly to the environment.

“The world is driving towards this means of energy and Nigeria, being a leader in petroleum products supplies, should be in the forefront. The government should lead the masses into this new trend by giving enough awareness and ensure that Nigerians are not left out.”
