66 bidders applied to buy 10 national integrated power plants – Nebo

No fewer than 66 bidders on Monday in Abuja submitted applications to buy 10 national integrated power plants built by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) Ltd.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, listed the plants to include Alaoji Generation Company Nigeria Ltd, which has three bids, while the Benin and Calabar power generation plants had four bidders and six bidders respectively.

Similarly, the Egbema Generation Company Nigeria Ltd and Gbarian Generation Company Ltd have four and seven bids respectively.

Nebo said Geregu Generation Company Ltd, Ogorode Generation Ltd and Omoku Generation Ltd had eight bids each, while Olorunsogo Generation Company Ltd and Aloji Generation Ltd had five and three bids respectively.

He said the highest number of 13 bids was submitted in favour of Omotoso Generation Company Ltd.

Nebo expressed gratitude to the management and staff of NDPHC for their doggedness in ensuring that due process was followed in the bidding processing.

He gave assurance to the bidding companies that they would not be disappointed when the actual bidding process begins in two weeks time.

Earlier, Chief Dagogo Jack, the Chairman, Presidential Taskforce on Power, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his consistency on the issue of power.

The Managing Director of NDPHC, Mr James Olotu, said he would ensure that each bid applicant had the capacity to manage the company they applied for

He said that NDPHC would not give the plants to investors “who cannot manage them’’.

Olotu said that he would not allow any company to strip the new power plants of their assets.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project was initiated in 2004 by the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, as part of efforts to boost power supply in the country. (NAN)
