British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, has projected 80 per cent rise in the value of Anglo-Nigeria mercantile trade by next year to about N2.12 trillion, if ongoing efforts to boost trade between both nations are sustained.

Pocock said his government was devoting more attention to how British companies and investors could play bigger roles in Nigeria’s economy, and by implication, ensure improved value of the bi-lateral trade between the two countries in the years ahead.

Speaking at the presentation of the ISO 27001:2005 Information Security Management System Certificate Award to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Abuja on Wednesday night, he said by sustaining ongoing reforms, the environment is gradually becoming more investment-friendly. He urged the authorities to ensure that the appropriate policy frameworks that would increase investors’ confidence are put in place as part of the reform agenda.

The CBN, he continued, “is the first regulatory agency in Nigeria to achieve ISO certification. That is a major achievement in itself, it is rather more important than that. It is not just a benchmark that is difficult to attain, it is a confidence building method. The Central Bank is a verified international company by the IMF and the World Bank.

“It is a remarkable achievement. Let me say that the United Kingdom has a selfish interest in the health of the Nigerian economy. We want to by next year to double bilateral trade to £8 billion. We want British companies, British investors t come to Nigeria to explore the many opportunities that it presents.

Commenting, the CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi, said the certificate presentation was a clear affirmation that the Central Bank has adopted the adopted the highest framework in the world for information security management.

Represented by Alhaji Suleiman Barau, Sanusi said “the ISO27001 is acclaimed as the world’s highest standard for information security management. Therefore, this ceremony is a clear affirmation that the Central Bank has adopted the adopted the highest framework in the world for information security management. CBN being a regulatory authority decided to take the lead in practices that is consistence with its status.

“Whereas all adopters of the ISO27001 Certification on information security management had stated off with a small manageable scope, the CBN took up an ambitious scope which encompasses the entire head office, comprising 27 departments.
