No increase in airfares — NCAA

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority says it has not authorised any increase in airfare by any airline in the country.

A statement signed  by the General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA,  Mr. Fan Ndubuoke, advised travellers to be cautious and ignore any misleading information.

The statement read in part, “The NCAA’s position further clarifies Arik Airline’s claim that it has not in any way increased its fares as being speculated by some passengers.

“The airline had attributed the speculated increase to the activities of touts at the airport.”

Any increase in airfare without the authorisation of NCAA should be disregarded, the statement said.

Intending passengers were urged to desist from patronising touts at airports and lodge any complaint of attempts by anybody to defraud them through the purchase of tickets to the NCAA’s consumer protection desk/counter located at the airports.

The agency also advised intending passengers to use the option of online booking, and direct counter purchase, among others, for their travelling tickets ahead of time for scheduled travels.

It also warned airline operators against arbitrary increase in fares, adding that any unprofessional practice would attract sanctions.
