Total group removes Nigeria’s affiliate from safety dashboard

Global headquarters of French oil major, Total group declared at the weekend that it had removed the name of its affiliate in Nigeria from its safety dashboard.

President, Africa and mid-East, Total group, Momar Nguer, who disclosed this at a send forth party in honour of Francois Boussagol, former Managing Director, Total Nigeria Plc (TNP), added that this measure was taken based on great improvement in the safety standard of the Nigeria’s affiliate.

“I have removed your name (Total Nigeria Plc) from the safety dashboard in my office,” he said adding that the achievement recorded by TNP “has also made the Nigeria’s affiliate to be the only one in Africa and middle east, which reports directly to my office.”

The party is also to welcome Alexis Vovk who took over from Boussagol as new Managing Director.

The new Managing Director, however, called on workers to support his bid to move the company forward.

While commending Boussagol for his hard work and excellence, Nguer expressed hope that Vevk, the new Managing Director will improve the standard set by his predecessor.

“I have known Vevk for many years and I know his ability to deliver,” he stated stressing that employee of the TNP “should also support your new MD in his bid to maintain and surpass the achievements of Boussagol.”

Corroborating the Nguer’s view, General Manager, Operations at Total Nigeria Plc, Chibeze Anyafulu, representative of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Kayode Sunday, and Goke Aluko commended Boussagol for his selfless services, which contributed immensely to the general success of the company.

Anyafulu said: “When Boussagol, the outgoing MD came to Nigeria on September 29, 2010, our allocation from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulating agency (PPPRA) was 45, 000 tonnes but he was able to through hard work and diligence, double the allocation.

“What we have now in term of allocation is 120, 000 tonnes in first quarter of the year.”

Aluko added that Nigeria rose to become the only country in Africa and Middle East that is given the access to report directly to the President, Total Africa and Middle East.

This is a testimony to what boussagol has been able to do withing the three years of his stay in Nigeria.

“He improved the safety standard of Total. Nigeria is no more on my dash board when it comes to safety. The outgoing MD showed key interest in developing the human capacity of the staff of Total, Nigeria.”

The PENGASSAN representative also called on the new MD to toe the line of Boussagol on staff welfare.
