Constituency projects’ll be implemented with SURE-P model – FG

The Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja stated that lawmakers’ constituency projects as enshrined in the 2013 budget would be implemented in accordance with the model of the Dr. Christopher Kolade-led Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme.

Under the arrangement, stringent conditions, including supervision right from the beginning of any project and monitoring by the relevant ministries, departments and agencies concerned must be satisfied before payment can be made after completion.

The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, said this on Tuesday in Abuja during a press briefing to herald the meeting of stakeholders involved in the implementation of the National Assembly constituency projects.

The meeting, which is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) is aimed at briefing all stakeholders on the critical and expected roles of all MDAs in actualising the successful implementation of constituency projects as well as interact with stakeholders on issues emanating from their implementation.

Turaki said, “As we begin to move on with the activities of the ministry, Nigerians will continue to appreciate efficient, better ways on how the activities of this ministry are being run. Let me say that the constituency projects as encapsulated in the 2013 budget will be implemented in accordance with the SURE-P model.

“The SURE-P model entails that the MDAs where these projects are situated by the National Assembly will begin the commencement of the process, which will comprise advertising for these jobs and prequalifying people that will have these jobs, up till the point of awarding contracts.”
