Traders send SOS to Amaechi over N500,000 fee for market stores

TRADERS at the New Layout market in Port Harcourt have appealed to Governor Chibuike Amaechi to reduce the five hundred thousand naira fee they were being asked to pay to secure their stores at the market.

While thanking the governor for rebuilding the market after it was razed down by fire Mr Lucky Atukuba who spoke for the traders yesterday in Port Harcourt pleaded with the governor to prevail on the Port Harcourt city council to reduce the amount being charged for the stores to two hundred thousand naira

The traders said they suffered so much loss from the inferno that engulfed market, adding that the governor should  pity their situation and step into the matter.  “”They said we should first pay 500,000 naira to secure our shades and then later we begin to pay yearly rent.

We want the governor to step into the matter because the five hundred thousand naira is too much for us. We suffered so much loss when the market was gutted by fire. The governor should intervene in the matter being handled by the Mayor of Port Harcourt”, Atukuba pleaded.

Adding, Mrs Gloria Bobmanuel said some of them being asked to come with five hundred thousand naira to secure stores were widows, adding that they sold vegetables and peppers. “Some of us our husbands don’t have jobs. Where will we  raise five hundred thousand?  Governor Amaechi should please come into this matter. Some of us even get our wares on credit after selling we pay back.
