Nokia/Airtel launches Lumia 520 and 720 phones

Nokia-Lumia-720-airtelIn line with its commitment to connect the next billion users through great mobile products, Nokia has introduced two new affordable smartphones under its popular Lumia range, namely the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720.

The new Nokia Lumia smartphones launched in partnership with Airtel Nigeria and Microsoft Nigeria both run on the Windows Phone 8 operating system and come with a free 500 Megabytes (MB) data plan for the first 6 months on the Airtel network when customers recharge with N1,000.

The Lumia 520 is Nokia’s most affordable Lumia smartphone and is designed with a number of rich innovations. The device comes in colourful changeable covers, a four inch super sensitive touchscreen with 800x480p screen resolution. It runs on a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and comes out of the box with the Nokia HERE location suite and local apps such as Jandus Radio, Soundcity and Konga.

Available in eye-catching colors, the Nokia Lumia 720 is a sleek and stylish interpretation of Nokia’s award-winning unibody design. The highly responsive curved 4.3” Clear Black Display with super sensitive touch brings an innovative lamination process for wider viewing angles and enhanced clarity in bright conditions thanks to software enhancements. An optional wireless charging covers also delivers further innovation first seen in the Nokia Lumia 920, making it easier to charge the phone.

Speaking at the launch, Managing Director for Nokia West and Central Africa, Nick Imudia, noted that the launch of both Nokia Lumia smartphones highlights Nokia’s commitment to bring continued innovation to all price points.

“Around the world, people are enjoying the Nokia Lumia experience. With the local launch of these two new Nokia Lumia smartphones, we`ve broadened the Nokia Lumia range and ensured that more people get to enjoy the technology that we have created,” he said.

On its part, Microsoft remarked that it is confident that the Lumia range from Nokia, including the Lumia 520 and 720 being unveiled today, provides excellent value for African consumers and will support both companies’ ambitious growth plans for the continent.

Its Country Manager for Anglophone West Africa, Emmanuel Onyeje, said that “We recently made a commitment through the 4Afrika Initiative to deliver tens of millions of smart devices into the hands of Africans in the coming years, and every new Windows Phone that becomes available further enables us to deliver on that commitment.”

Also speaking, Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Operating Officer, Deepak Srivastava, expressed that the company is delighted to partner with Nokia, in delivering cutting-edge technology solutions.

He stated that the latest Lumia 520 and 720 Smartphones are aimed at improving the efficiencies of business people while also adding immense value to the lifestyle of telecoms consumers across the country, adding that “This is a worthy alliance that is clearly in sync with our motto of always partnering with the best to delight our customers.”

The new Nokia Lumia 520 and 720 are available in Airtel stores, Nokia stores and retail outlets nationwide. The Nokia Lumia 520 is available in Cyan, Yellow, White, Black and Red. It is will be priced from N28,000. The Nokia Lumia 720 is available in Cyan, Yellow, White, Black as well as Red. It is expected to be priced from N49,000.
