New Aviation Policy: NCAA threatens to sanction errant airlines

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has threatened to sanction any local or international airline operator who violates the new aviation policy introduced by the Federal Government.

The authority’s acting Director General, Joyce Nkemakolam, said this on Monday in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria,NAN.

He said that violators of the new aviation policy would be accordingly sanctioned, as stipulated in the new policy.

Nkemakolam said: “Operating with expired registered documents by both local and foreign airline operators will no longer be tolerated in the industry.

“However, we encourage people to invest in the industry as we make the procedures simpler.

“We will apply international standards of ICAO in whatever we do and we don’t intend to compromise standards,”

Also, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency boss, Nnamdi Udo, in a separate interview, said the new aviation policy was for the interest of the flying public and airline operators.

He said that the new policy focused on the safety and security of the sector and advised people to read and understand it instead of complaining and comparing it with other laws.

Udo said: “The policy is mainly for the safety and security of the flying public. When you look at the document and read, then you will understand that it is for the benefit of the operators and the flying public.

“The new policy will enhance safety, improve the economy and attract businesses, as well as ensure a robust aviation industry in the country.

“There is no politics in the aviation industry, as it is our usual practice to ground any airline which violates the laws.”

Udo said however, that NAMA would encourage stakeholders to make proper use of the new policy.
