FCTA allocates affordable housing scheme land for Workers’ cooperative societies

jumoke-akinjide-fct_0Succor came the way of thousands of federal workers as Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) allocated lands to the National Agricultural Seeds Council and the Abuja Enterprises Agency Cooperative Society for the construction of low-cost houses for their staff.

Other beneficiaries of the FCTA’s social and affordable housing programme include Millard Fuller Foundation and Nigeria Police Cooperative Society.

Olajumoke Akinjide, FCT Minister of State who presented the affordable housing offer letters to Samuel Anuforo, Director of National Agricultural Seeds Council, Samuel Anuforo and Aisha Dasoki, Head of Rural and Community Development of Abuja Enterprises Agency (AEA), explained that the scheme was part of the administration’s efforts towards addressing the dearth of low-cost houses in the nation’s capital city.

The minister stated that the Wasa District in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Mamusa District in Kuje Area Council were the designated areas for the social and affordable housing scheme of the Administration.

She said “the beneficiaries of the FCT Administration’s affordable housing scheme are expected to develop the land by building affordable houses while the Administration will provide the land and infrastructure. The FCTA is giving adequate attention to the provision of infrastructure in the two sites – Wasa and Mamusa Districts.

“The Administration is also stepping up the development of the area councils and satellite towns where 80 percent of the people who work in the city live. This is at the heart of the FCTA’s programmes. We require the support of the National Assembly in the execution of the projects and programmes of the Administration.”

In his remarks, John Chukwu, FCT Permanent Secretary who expressed great hope for the civil servants and common man in the FCT, warned beneficiaries of the affordable housing programme not to sell the houses at exorbitant prices to their staff and the public.

He said “we are going to monitor the project and support the developers to realise the objective of the programme. The houses, when completed, should be made affordable to the staff and the public.

“This is a new beginning in the FCT and it provides great hope for the civil servants and the common man. It is a great joy to be part of this memorable programme.”
