Tourism on the Plateau can generate $75 billion revenue for the state annually – Kwapnoe

The vice Captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Jos, Mr Alex Kwapnoe has said that according to Nigerian Tourism Development Commission,NTDC, Plateau State has the potential to generate 75 billion dollars annually from tourism, if properly harnessed.

He disclosed this in a chat with journalists in Jos, saying that Plateau was blessed with a lot of tourist sites and favourable weather that encourage many to visit the State.

According to him, “I was privileged to read a study by the Nigerian Tourism Development Commission,NTDC, that Plateau State can make 75 billion dollars per annum on tourism.

“The unique weather which is usually likened to temperate climate condition of Europe is what every tourist would want to see and experience.

Kwapnoe, a former Tourism Commissioner in the State, explained that, “I assure you that we don’t need oil in Plateau, we have enough
substitute for oil.

“The breath taking sites in the State like the Shere Hills, Kura Falls, Assop Waterfalls, Wase Rock, Panyam Fish, Jos Wild Life Park
and others can generate a lot of money.

He further stated that, “another serious attraction to tourists is golf and Plateau is the centre of golf in Nigeria as it has three compact and standard golf courses”.

Kwapnoe further explained that, if permanent peace is restored in the state, Plateau will be a place where everybody will want to visit.

The former Plateau State House of Assembly member urged the State Government to develop the tourism sector and encourage the game of golf in order to attract more visitors to the state.

Stressing that, “The NTDC sponsors golf in Plateau most of the time because of the realisation that Plateau can survive with just tourism and golf.”
