Uncertainty over sack of Aero’s HR director

There were indications on Monday that the Director of Human Resources at embattled carrier- Aero Contractors, Mrs Temitope Fagbemi, may have been fired.

She is believed to have caused the recent turmoil that forced the company to suspend flights for 18 days, following a face-off between Aero and industrial unions in the aviation industry, over what was termed anti-labour decisions.

A usually reliable source told Daily Independent that the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), the core investor in Aero arising from its purchase of debts owed by the company to banks that has purchased last year, may have relieved Mrs Fagbemi of her job.

The stand-off between the unions and Aero followed the company’s decision to outsource the job of 40 chauffeurs on the company’s payroll to a private firm, an idea said to have been mooted by the former HR chief.

Speaking on the alleged sack of Mrs. Fagbemi, National to Daily Independent, President of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Comrade Benjamin Okewu, said the decision, if true, is a welcome development.

He said it would be better for the airline to relieve her of her duties, as the aviation unions are not ready to jettison the peace so far recorded in the past few days, adding that the woman was allegedly sacked last weekend to the job of the over 250 workers.

”Having enjoyed peace in these few days, we would make sure she does not come back,” he stressed, recalling that her presence in the company did not allow for effective communication between the management and workers, adding that her body language indicated that she does not want the unions to exist.
