Enugu government approves N467m for pineapple factory

The Enugu State government is to spend over four hundred and sixty-seven million naira for the establishment of a pineapple factory in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke who announced
this at the end of the State Executive Council meeting said the approval to spend the said sum was given at the
meeting chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Sullivan I. Chime.

According to the Commissioner, over thirty-seven million naira, would also be spent for the payment of salaries of the newly recruited staff and those absorbed into the state service.

He said the pineapple project will include procurement and installation of irrigation
facilities and fractional cost of cultivation of the first five hundred (500) out of the (1000) one thousand hectares of the Enugu San Carlos Pineapple project, to be located within the three local governments areas of Awgu, Oji River and Udi.

Ugwuoke stated that among other things, the council also approved the payment of N1,000.00 each for the 2013 State First School Leaving Certificate Examination for pupils in private schools, while it is free for pupils in public school.

The fee, according to him is to cover cost of stationeries, registration forms, printing of question papers, conduct of the examination and certification.
