PENGASSAN President implores FG to grant incentives to owners of private refineries

Mr Babatunde Ogun, President, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), on Thursday called on the Federal Government to grant incentives to owners of private refineries.

Ogun made the call at an interactive session between his union and members of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), held in Lagos.

He added that such incentives would help boost their production.

He said that the management of each refinery should be autonomous and fully responsible for its success and failure.

Ogun said that they should stand alone and be independent of the proposed National Oil Company (NOC).

He said that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) should lay the legal framework for a sustained growth in the development of local refining capacity.

“This will end the regime of importation of refined petroleum products, and usher in Nigeria as an exporter of refined petroleum products.“

Also speaking, Mr Igwe Achese, President, NUPENG, called on petroleum regulatory agencies to carry out their responsibilities diligently in the interest of the sector.

Achese added that this would assist stakeholders to avoid fraudulent practice and corruption.

He also urged companies in the oil and gas sector to respect labour laws.
