CBSS says it can produce device to track pipeline vandals, kidnappers

The Centre for Basic Space Science, CBSS, in its effort to halt the activities of vandals, said it has concluded research on devices that could track down oil pipeline vandals.

Director of the Centre, Prof Chukwemeka Opara, who revealed this during an interview with journalists, said that the centre had produced a special tracking device, which according to him would easily track kidnappers in their hideout.

He added that the centre, which has its temporary site at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has also produced low cost and effective solar energy used to power electrical equipment both at home and in offices.

He said: “With our car tracking and kidnapper device,s you can locate a stolen car and trace kidnappers in their hideouts very easily.

“We use electrical equipment in the centre, twenty four hours with solar energy.

“With sponsorship, we can mass produce the solar energy equipment for people to use theirs at home and in offices”.

He said that the mandate of the centre was to develop scientific research anchored on capacity building that would address the technological manpower needed. By the country, noting that “we deal mainly on astronomy, in which we watch and monitor what happens in the sun and around it.

“Whatever happens in the sun to a large extent affects the earth where we are living”.

While commending the effort of the federal government for funding the centre, he said that the centre was ready to partner with state, local governments and other organizations for mass production of the developed devices.

“The federal government cannot do it alone, we are ready to partner with state, local government and organization to enable the centre to mass produce devices it has developed for public use”.

Opara disclosed that the centre would soon move to its permanent site near St Cypril Special Science Secondary School Nsukka.

“We have mounted some equipment like GPRS and telescope in the permanent site. Some members of our staff have already moved to the permanent site”. He concluded.
