Consumers in Lokoja owe PHCN N1.8billion

As Kogi state battles with epileptic power supply, the Power Holding company of Nigeria (PHCN) has said that electricity consumers in Lokoja are owing the unit over N1.08 billion.

The Business Manager of the Lokoja Business Unit, Muhammed Ameen Shakur who stated this at the weekend at the 2012 annual merit award for distinguish 41 staff and customers said the debt are as result of accumulated unpaid bills by electricity consumers in the area.

According to him, the revenue generation profile of the unit is very discouraging due to the debt, saying that the current revenuegeneration of the unit stands at an average of N41 million as againstenergy worth of between N90 and N100 million.

Shakur said the total daily energy requirement of the Lokoja unit was 40MW while average daily energy allocation to the unit stands at 18MW, leaving a shortfall of 22MW.

He added that the unit was effectively carrying out load shedding in order to ensure proper power rationing, saying that there would be improvement as soon the 115MVA and the two NIPP projects are completed.

While stressing that everything would be done to ensure adequate power supply, He however appealed to customers in the unity to promptly pay their bills to enable the unit to serve them better.
