Firefox Launches Mozilla mobile phone

By on January 26, 2013

Mozilla, one of the foremost internet browser providers, has dolled out details of it’s plans to launch new smartphones to be powered by its Firefox operating system.

It disclosed that two mobile phones would be introduced by a fast growing Spanish firm called Geeksphone and will be targeted at developers before the system is formally launched.

The system will be based on the HTML5 web programming language and is being sold as offering software writers more “freedom” than alternatives”

However, it may face stiff competition from other systems that will soon be released into the mobile market.

It is no longer news that Blackberry 10, Ubuntu, Tizen and Sailfish will be released before 2013 runs to a close, to compete in a market that has already been taken over by Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry 7 and Symbian among others.

Some analysts believe that the global market will be too small for the entire smartphones to survive. Nigerian analysts have seen the development as a welcome one, considering the dominance of Blackberry.
