PPMC confirms arrest of 67 pipeline vandals

After several disruptions of petroleum products supply in Nigeria, the Pipeline Products and Marketing Company (PPMC), has announced that about 67 suspects believed to be Vandals who have been damaging pipelines, have been arrested.

They have also been charged to court to face prosecution, for destroying the facilities of System 2B , the flow system that enables supply and pumping through the pipeline for States bordering the South Western Region of Nigeria.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of the PPMC, Mr Haruna Momoh informed journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State during the inauguration of the four ultra-modern triple agent fire fighter trucks at Mosinmi Training Centre, Shagamu.

Decrying the activities of the Vandals in the Country, Mr Momoh said the Company had lost about N165 billion to the nefarious acts of some irresponsible Nigerians in the last four years, truncating the prospects of effective distribution of fuel products in the Country .

He said “We also lost lives in the course of repairing the vandalised pipelines. In Arepo, about five members of staff were killed while on duty repairing the vandalised lines. We, however, call on Nigerians and stakeholders to come together to fight this menace.”

Speaking Further on the Challenges of Distribution Mr Momoh stressed thus “We need to restate that the quickest, safest and easiest means of distributing product is through the pipeline network.”

Identifying some vandalized areas in the Country like Ijedodo, Imagbon, Ijegun and Arepo, the PPMC boss highlighted the need for community efforts to track down more vandals involved in hampering the distribution of the petroleum.
