Former Governor Ikedi Ohakim misappropriated N62bn – Okorocha

Imo State Government has alleged that the former state Governor Ikedi Ohakim embezzled about N62bn during his term in office.

The allegations were contained in a report presented to the present Governor, Rochas Okorocha yesterday by a committee setup to dig into the allegation of looting in the state.

The committee was headed by the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Jude Agbaso.

According to the committee that reviewed the account between June 2007 and May 2011, Ohakim borrowed N6bn from United Bank for Africa in March 2011 on a personal note for the government and allegedly used it for the security of the state.

Although 9.2bn was budget for security in the state but Ohakim spent 14bn in the same period under review.

He was also accused of paying billions to consultants who never did their jobs.

The present Governor however promised to recover the funds and return back to the state government treasury.

On the contrary, Mr. Kelechukwu Okpaleke, an aide to the former Governor said the report was a caricature and a drama presentation targeted at tarnishing Ohakim’s image, adding that it was a desperate act by Okorocha to frustrate the efforts of the former Governor.

    Ohakim should be bring to book and he should be made to return all the money he looted from Imo state ola.
