Yusuf Taofeeq Olanrewaju arrested with $767,500 at Lagos Airport

A man known for his frequent trip to Hong Kong, Yusuf Taofeeq Olanrewaju was yesterday arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) with $767,500.

Olanrewaju boarded an Emirates flight number EK782 to Hong Kong through Dubai, with passport number A03758685.

Olanrewaju who claimed to be a businessperson and a frequent traveller to Hong Kong for business was handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for further investigation.

According to the Customs Public Relations Officer at the airport, Mrs Thelma Williams, Olanrewaju declared the said amount in his CDF1A and CDF1B forms but could not satisfactorily defend the source of his money.

Williams said it was during investigation that they discovered that the arrested person was a frequent traveller.

He said, “Yusuf Taofeeq Olanrewaju on April 27, 2012 travelled to Hong Kong with $182,000, On May 26, 2012, he travelled with $228, 000 to Hong Kong.”

“On July, 21, 2012, he travelled with $395, 000 to Hong Kong, On September 15, 2012, he travelled with $525000 to Hong Kong, On November 3, 2012, he travelled with $10000 to China, and this present case, January, 10, 2013, when he travelled with $767500 to Hong Kong.”

      Yes o my brother, after laundering other huge sums in the past. I’m think he just failed to bribe his way this time around that’s why he is arrested. Its the reality we nigerians suffer with every passing day, bribery and corruption.
