Dagogo-Jack backs President Jonathan on 5,000MW power generation claim

The Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP) has backed President Goodluck Jonathans on 5,000MW Power Generation claim, saying, “President Jonathan did not lie”

Speaking on the development in Abuja, PTFP moved against media reports, which misinterpreted the President’s claims, saying, the President actually admitted the fact that the country was not free from power transmission problems.

In a statement, the Chairman of PTFP, Beks Dagogo-Jack said, “The President made mention of the 5000 megawatts (MW) generation profile achieved and immediately went on to clarify that owing to transmission constraints not all of this can be evacuated for now.

It is important to note that since that interview, we have achieved over 6,300 MW in available generation and have hit a peak of 4517MW in evacuated power. So where is the lie? ”

In his words, “There was a difference between the impressive increase we have recorded in available generation which is in it a worthy progress and the actual power we can wheel on any given day based on the transmission and gas limitations.”

He said the article was “a mischievous misinterpretation of what Mr. President said and meant and disrespect to the office of the President”.

Explaining further, he said it is a fact that in 2010 power generation was below 3000MW. He also said it could be remembered that when President Jonathan came into office he advised against the use of civil language when talking about Presidential issues.

“Such persons should not allow themselves to be used by detractors who are envious of the very remarkable strides already recorded in power under the leadership of President Jonathan. The truth of significant improvement in power supply since 2010 is not a hidden fact,” Dagogo-Jack stated.
