The Telecommunications sector ,which is second to the Oil and Gas sector in terms of revenue generation in the Country ,has come under the searchlight as the year 2013 begins.

With poor Network service delivery, challenges in dropped voice calls, slow pace in the provision of Data services, Sms delivery issues and unnecessary billing of Subscribers in the year 2012, a lot is expected this year from the service providers.

Some of the Subscribers who pointed at some major lapses at the last Nigerian Communications Commission parliament, decried the level of service delivery from the major network service providers like Etisalat, Glo, MTN and Airtel.

Also the Nigerian Communications Commission, the regulatory body, wants dynamic service from Telcos who are patronised. By over 100 million Nigerians. It is also seeking for more investment in Infrastructure and equipment that will boost the Network.

Director,Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Mr Tony Ojobo speaking on behalf of the commission affirmed that based on Nigerians’ patronage, loyalty and engagement with the network service operators, they deserve more quality service in year 2013.

He also urged the Telcos to collaborate amongst themselves and explore the Hybrid technology potentials that can help tackle the issue of power supply in the country, considering the challenge the sector is facing in Nigeria.

Speaking also on the need for a better service delivery in the year 2013,Telecommunications lawyer Mr Jiti Ogunye urged the Telcos to upgrade their technology and strategically plan how they will boost service delivery in the country.

He decried the poor Network situation of 2012, and said it was good that the regulatory body banned promos, which he believed at a point hampered effective service delivery in the sector, and hoped the Telcos would learn and do better this year.

President of the Association of Telecommunications Company of Nigeria (ATCON) Mr Lanre Ajayi was optimistic that the Telcos would pull their weight together in 2013, and deliver valuable service to Nigerians, urging them to build on their capacity and upgrade of their facilities.
