Ibadan, Ore and Ilorin depots yet to get NNPC products supply

pite the assurance from the Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Allison Madueke , that in the New Year, there would be improvement in the supply of petroleum products to tackle the challenges of fuel scarcity, some parts of the country are still having issues with distribution from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) pipeline.

The Ore, Ibadan and Ilorin depots are still short of adequate supply from the supply pipelines, contradicting the claims by the State Oil firm that distribution of petroleum products across the country has improved.

On the issue of the Atlas Cove, which has the pipelines designed to pump petroleum products to Ejigbo, Ore, Ibadan, and Ilorin depots, it was revealed that no product has been pumped so far to these depots.

Marketers who normally load Products at the Depots in Ibadan, Ore and Ilorin were stranded in some of the private depots due to insufficient products from the NNPC at the moment, which was a challenging experience for them.

One of the Sources in the Oil marketing Company, said “The problem is compounded by the fact that when a vessel carrying our own products comes in, the NNPC will not allow it to discharge at Apapa because its vessel is on the way. When NNPC vessel finally comes in, it will take a whole week to discharge because they want to ration the products to as many companies as possible and this wastes time”.

The System 2B Network, which is responsible for the distribution of about 12 million litres of petrol in the South West region of the Nation, had gone through various phases of challenges in facilitating distribution last year.

Part of the challenges has been the activities of Vandals late last year, that were responsible for disrupting the operational flow of the Arepo and Ije-ododo pipelines, instrumental to pumping fuel products in the region.

But with the recent repair of the Ije-ododo and Arepo pipelines by the NNPC, it is expected that the System 2B network will be in good shape to pump petrol to depots in the South West, easing any tendency of starting the year with fuel scarcity.
