Warri Refinery not closed – NNPC

ontrary to reports and claims that operations at the Warri refinery have been shut down temporarily for routine maintenance, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has come out to deny any of such developments.

In a statement issued by the Image maker of the State Oil corporation, Mr Fidelis Pepple, the NNPC Warri Refinery was in good shape and not in need of any form of turn around maintenance that will warrant operations being closed down.

The Chief Spokesperson said it was important to clarify issues as about 24 hours ago, media reports had it that the NNPC Warri operations had been shut down for purported routine check.

He urged the public to disregard the reports while explaining that the corporation was doing everything within its capacity to ensure that petroleum products were made available to the populace during this festive season.

Meanwhile, there have been worries and concerns over the shortage of petroleum product since the beginning of the yuletide, as drivers and car owners continue to comb filling stations in search of the products.

This development is contrary to government’s assurance that adequate petroleum products would be supplied to the public during the Christmas and New Year celebration. The Minister for Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke’s promise appears unrealised as long queues can be seen in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country, especially at NNPC Mega stations.

The black market dealers are using this opportunity to rip-off desperate commuters who are travelling for the seasons celebration. It has also affected transport fares slightly as drivers continue to claim that the unavailability of the products was responsible for the raise in fare.
